I kid, I kid! But NWP does afford me such amazing opportunities not only as a teacher but as a literary creature. As a person. I have been able to travel the country and meet equally passionate educators who are more knowledgeable than I could ever dream of being. I have sat with over 1,000 colleagues at each of the 3 fall meetings I've attended and had the privilege of lobbying in D.C. at one spring meeting. The people I meet and places I go in the name of UMWP and NWP do nothing but enrich my teaching and my life. My students are fascinated by where I go and the people I encounter. Billy Collins is like a rock star to some of my 5th graders- Hippos on Holiday changed some of their poetic lives- and I have this photo hanging in my classroom. They love not only the new strategies that I bring back from NWP events, but the enthusiasm I bring back as well. NWP is an educator's best friend.
